On the 14th of January, 1858, Italian nationalist Felice Orsini attempted to assassinate Louis Napoleon for preventing Italian unification. Why, then, would Napoleon change his mind and support the cause the next year? Didn't he feel any anger or hatred at the Italians for attacking him?
